API 5L SEAMLESS & WELDED PIPE

Scope

ANSI / API 5L specifies the manufacture of two product levels (PSL1 and PSL2) of seamless and welded steel pipe for the use of a pipeline in the transportation of petroleum and natural gas. For material use in a sour service application, refer to Annex H; for offshore service application, refer to Annex J of API 5L 45th Edition.

Process

Ingots, blooms, billets, coils or plates used for the manufacture of pipe shall be made via basic oxygen, electric furnace or open hearth in combination with a ladle refining process. For PSL2, the steel shall be killed and melted according to a fine grain practice. Coil or plate used for PSL2 pipe shall not contain any repair welds.

Surface
All surfaces have been 100% visually inspected. The surface condition complies with API 5L standard. 

Coverage
(a) longitudinal: 100% of the pipe surface 
(b) pipe ends not scanned by automatic ultrasonic system shall be inspected by manual UT or Magnetic Particle. Examination.

Hydrostatic test
(a) Test pressure may not exceed 2970 psi in accordance to API 5L requirements.
(b) Holding time: minimum 5 seconds.

Certification and traceability
All dimensions will be supplied with a 3.2 certificate according to EN 10204, endorsed by recognized and independent inspection agency. 
Marking on pipes accordance with API requirements & mill standard, size, weight, heat number. 

Dimensional control
All dimensions will be supplied according to API 5L standard; In addition, the following tolerances apply: 
(a) Pipe body: +/- 0,75% 
(b) Pipe end: +/- 0,5% 
(c) Thickness: +15%, -12,5% 
(d) Length: -0 / +100mm 

Pipe Ends
Pipe Ends are plain or bevel. Bevel End angle shall be 30°- 0°/+5°, Ends is protected by plastic/metal cap/ends protector. 

Packing and shipment
For 1/2" to 8" seamless steel pipe, packaging always be in bundles with steel strip, 9'' and upper size will be in loose. 
Coating type: bare, varnish painting(anti-rusted painting), hot dipped galvanized, 3LPE, 3PP 
End protect: plastic ends cap, end protector. 
Packing: Bundled or each piece with knitted plastic bag, wooden cases or Ply-wooden Case /Iron Case/ Bundle or as per customers' requirement.
